Sales Ledger Clerk


We have a vacancy for a Sales Ledger Clerk and are seeking a professional team player to join our vibrant and friendly Finance Team based in our Head Office in Carlisle.  A highly organised and committed individual, with attention to detail and a passion for customer service would be ideal for this role.

The Position

This role brings a great opportunity to work in a busy and thriving Finance department. Duties include sales ledger administration, self-billing reconciliation, liaising with customers, providing financial administration support and completing general administration as required.

Based within the accounts team, you’ll be provided with all the guidance and support you need to fulfil your responsibilities.  This is a permanent, full-time role working Monday – Friday.

Key Responsibilities

• Taking a proactive role in managing and collecting debts of company debtors
• Evaluating new credit requests and reviewing customers’ credit rankings with banks
• Ensuring timely payment of debts
• Following up payments as needed
• Responding to relevant client enquiries
• Weekly invoice / sales ledger processing
• Checking and posting of receipts to accounting systems
• Processing of bank transactions into the accounting system
• Preparation and distribution of statements and all relevant information as required
• Managing sales ledger
• Assist with preparation of year end, supporting schedules and annual audits including the provision of information to auditors
• Reconciliation of customer invoices to internally generated self-bill invoices
• Liaising with customers and internal managers to resolve invoice discrepancies
• To respond to customer and regional manager requests for information and clarification
• Proactive in monitoring and verifying query responses
• Agree and reconcile customer payments and statements across multiple accounts


• Experience in a finance or accountancy function desirable
• Demonstrable organisational skills, ability to prioritise workload and planning
• Proficient IT skills, experience of Microsoft packages, particularly excel
• Excellent communicator, ability to build good working relationships with stakeholders
• Decision making, ability to problem solve and use initiative
• High levels of attention to detail and accuracy
• Confident people person
• Agile and adaptable to change
