The Position

You’ll act as a trusted advisor to colleagues and stakeholders on all ecology matters—helping us protect biodiversity, enhance habitats, and make a lasting difference. The role can be divided into the following key responsibilities, but it is not limited to:

 

-         Representing and promoting the Company’s environmental standards

-         Delivering ecological services inline with customer needs and Company objectives

-         Undertaking ECoWs duties on development and land management projects

-         Managing applications for ecological & protected species licences

-         Undertaking and managing ecological surveys for habitats, birds, reptile and protected species, analysing and interpreting the subsequent results

-         Preparing and reviewing of technical reports and ecological assessments

-         Managing project budgets, timelines and resources effectively

-         Liaising with internal and external stakeholders and providing guidance, ensuring projects adhere to best practices and comply with relevant policies and legal regulations

-         Advising on environmental legislation, keeping key stakeholders informed of any changes, updating company policies and procedures as required

-         Undertaking, supervising and training colleagues on PEAs, ECiAs and HRAs assessments

-         Supporting existing forestry management and harvesting business streams on ecological related matters.

-         Assisting in managing the Ecology business stream and maintaining a high standard of personal and environmental performance

-         Playing an active role in maintaining and developing the Environmental management system to include internal updates and support with external audits

 

Training and support will be provided to introduce the successful applicant to company systems and procedures.

 

Qualification & Experience

Essential

 -         Relevant academic qualifications in ecology, environment, land use or other related discipline

-         Membership of, or working towards, the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or equivalent professional body with professional code of conduct,

-         CSCS Card

-         Schedule 1 birds protected species licence holder

-         Proven record of Ecological Clerk of Works experience

-         Proven experience managing ecological projects from conception to completion; including procurement, budget control, managing other ecological disciplines and sub-contractors, programming work and meeting project objectives

-         Proven experience of delivering and coordinating ecological surveys (habitats, protected species, birds, reptile)

-         Understanding and experience in the application of UK environmental legislation and policy

 

Desirable

-         Experience in report writing(including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, management plans and Ecological Impact Assessments) and development of mitigation measures

-         Experience of forestry management and harvesting environment is desirable

-        Experience in working in multi-disciplined teams, providing technical and non-technical advice

Skills

-         Proven business acumen, and a desire to support business development

-         Diligent and professional in your approach to work

-         Self-motivated to deliver a high-quality service to clients and internal teams

-         Strong client relationship management skills

-         Organisational, communication and planning skills

-         Motivational and negotiating skills

-         Proficiency with IT systems, QGIS, mobile apps and other Office 365 apps

-         Clean, Full UK Drivers Licence and willingness to travel
