Project Region: Perthshire, Scotland
Project Type: Timber Marketing & Roading Operations
Project Duration: Approx. 2 months
Forest Area Accessed: 95 hectares of previously inaccessible commercial woodland
Next Phase: 6,500-tonne clearfell operation (to follow road completion)
In rural Perthshire, Euroforest is carrying out a critical infrastructure project to unlock access to approximately 95 hectares of productive but previously inaccessible forest. The construction of a new forest road forms the foundation for future harvesting operations, beginning with a 6,500-tonne clearfell on the same property.
Although modest in scale, this road build demonstrates Euroforest’s continued ability to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects across a range of terrain and logistical conditions, supporting sustainable woodland management and efficient timber marketing.
The primary aim of this project is to establish a durable, compliant forest road that will provide long-term access to a remote part of the estate. This new route will allow safe and efficient harvesting, haulage, and woodland management for years to come.
Currently, the road formation has been completed, along with a topside drainage system. Culverts have been installed in line with industry guidance to manage water flow and reduce erosion risk. The next stage will involve onsite stone generation and capping to provide a stable, weather-resilient surface.
One of the most sensitive aspects of this project has been the presence of a private water supply adjacent to the construction area. This supply feeds eight residential properties and a working farm, making it essential that operations do not impact water quality or flow.
To address this, Euroforest initiated early consultation with local residents to accurately map and understand the intake location and setup. This collaborative approach informed the design phase, allowing us to implement a water-sensitive strategy from the outset.
Surface water is being carefully managed using sumps and soakaways designed to divert flow safely away from the water source. In addition, ongoing monitoring ensures these protections remain effective throughout the build process.
This project is a clear reflection of Euroforest’s strengths in planning, compliance, and communication. We prioritise an open and transparent process, keeping landowners informed at every stage while ensuring that all necessary permissions and environmental safeguards are in place.
Our team’s qualifications in CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations further ensure the works are carried out safely, legally, and in line with best practice.
Whether small or large in scale, we deliver roading solutions with a strong emphasis on site-specific adaptation, operational safety, and long-term sustainability.
Once construction is complete, the newly formed road will facilitate a 6,500-tonne clearfell on the site, helping to bring underutilised timber to market. The improved access will not only benefit current operations but also support ongoing woodland management, restocking, and biodiversity efforts.
