Euroforest building the road to success

Clearfell Harvesting in South England County Park

Euroforest manager Doug King recently completed a harvesting operation for Devon County Council at Stover Country Park.  The clearfell of Douglas Fir was undertaken to improve the biodiversity of the Park, and will be replaced with native broadleaves when replanted

The harvesting took place around and directly behind the Stover County Park visitors centre and therefore careful planning and organised timings were essential to ensure disruptions was kept to a minimum.  All of the operations around the centre and within the working risk zones which included public footpaths were undertaken within one day to minimise closures of the area, with the full contract completed and the ground ready for replanting within one week.

Euroforest’s Mid-Year Placement Student, Gregor Rodger played a key role in assisting with the management of the site and the smooth and efficient operations.  The harvesting operations were undertaken by local contractor, Paul Nosworthy who lives close by and has carried out harvesting operations for Euroforest in the Southwest for nearly twenty years. The products harvested from the sites were sold into local markets and all parties worked well together to ensure a smooth, well-planned operation from start to finish.
